Do Hair Extensions Fall Out Easily?

Do Hair Extensions Fall Out Easily?

Why is my hair extensions falling out?
Hair shedding is as natural as breathing. It’s going to happen and it’s almost unavoidable. You’ve most likely come across hair shedding several times in your life.

The truth still remains that NO ONE wants their bundles to be shedding, or having to remove large clumps of hair every time they style, wash or brush, especially not after saving for weeks or spending an entire pay check to afford some real hair weft extensions.

Hair extensions are made through a process called “wefting”

Hair Wefting is a process in which the hair goes through a sewing machine weft that brings the hair together to form a straight, tied bundle. This method is used to make all bundles. The process contributes to the hair’s easy installation and allows one solid unit, instead of free strands of hair.

The two major factors in hair shedding are

1 – The hair is 100% human hair, and human hair will shedding as part of it’s natural life cycle.

2 – The hair strands might not be sewn tightly enough to the weft which will cause the hair to shedding especially with coming and de-tangling.

Extensions are prone to shedding because they are made of human hair, and may not be sewn tightly enough to the weft.

Which textures sheds the most

Natural hair and extensions such as 100 human hair ponytail alike sheds period. Research shows that natural hair sheds 100-150 strands a day. Though all hair sheds, the kinkier textures will shed more often.

  • Hair extensions like deep wave, kinky curly, and to some extent kinky straight will shed more because they can easily become tangle and require more attention in order to maintain it’s beautiful bounce and look.
  • Straighter hair textures, body wave and loose wave are less likely to shed and are easier to manage

Like your natural hair, human hair weft hair extensions can experience shedding. Shedding occurs when individual strands of hair are pulled out of the weft or away from the clip, tape, or other methods of installation. Unless your extensions are sewn in tightly to the weft, you will experience shedding. And because your extensions are made from human hair, this is normal! But there are a few things you can do to reduce the risk of shedding.

Sleeping

  • Never sleep with your hair wet! This can cause the hair to tangle with your own hair and create a knotted mess.
  • Braid your hair before going to bed. This will prevent unnecessary pulling and tugging while you sleep.

Washing

  • ALWAYS Use sulfate free conditioners and shampoos.
  • Do not wash your hair for at least 48 hours after your extensions have been fitted.
  • Wash your hair as little as possible – once or twice a week is best as the less stress put on the extensions the better.
  • After washing towel dry and leave to dry naturally for as long as possible.

Brushing

  • Always use a specially designed hair extension brush. This will cause minimal damage to your extensions.
Brush at least once a day, taking care not to create shedding.
Avoid especially hard brushes or those with balls on the end of the bristles as these will rip and tear the extension hair.
In conclusion, it is is important to remember that no hair extensions will be completely shed free, however with the steps taken above, one will be able to minimize shedding.
